The short answer
Southeast Boise and the Bench are the neighborhoods closest to Micron in Boise, about 10 to 15 minutes off-peak. The campus at 8000 S. Federal Way is reached from I-84 at Exit 57, the Gowen Road interchange, then south on Federal Way. Add time at rush hour, and drive the route at your commute time before you buy.

Which Micron Boise neighborhoods are closest to the campus?
If you're moving to Boise for Micron and you want to know what neighborhoods are closest to Micron in Boise, start with the map. The campus at 8000 S. Federal Way sits in Southeast Boise, southeast of the Boise Airport and near I-84. These drive times were measured with OpenStreetMap on October 26, 2026, from a central point in each area to the campus. They're off-peak and approximate. My Micron relocation guide has more on each area.

The campus sits inside Southeast Boise, so of all the Micron Boise neighborhoods, Southeast Boise has the homes closest to it, a few minutes away. Farther out in the same corner of the city, Bown Crossing is about 11 minutes and Harris Ranch about 17.
The main routes to 8000 S. Federal Way
The campus sits on Federal Way. Micron's visitor map marks the route from Interstate 84 at Exit 57, the Gowen Road interchange. From the exit, follow Federal Way to the campus.
From Meridian or Nampa, most of the drive is I-84 eastbound to the Gowen Road exit. From downtown, the North End, or the East End, the drive is shorter, about 15 minutes off-peak, and it ends on the same road.
One distinction is worth knowing before your first drive: the airport terminal is not the campus. The terminal is off Vista Avenue at I-84 Exit 53, while the campus is south of the airport off Gowen Road. If you fly in to look at homes, set your destination for 8000 S. Federal Way, not the terminal.
What does rush hour add to the drive?
The off-peak times above are the shortest version of the drive, not the norm. The Idaho Transportation Department says traffic on portions of I-84 grew by an average of almost 15 percent from 2019 to 2025, and that on-ramps and off-ramps see significant congestion during peak hours. In January 2014, ITD counted 47,000 vehicles a day at the Gowen interchange and projected 127,000 by 2035.
In 2011, ITD added two lanes in each direction on the three-mile stretch of I-84 from Cole Road to Broadway, a project the department said would relieve congestion on the way to Micron Technology, the Boise Airport, and Boise State University. Starting in 2014, ITD rebuilt the Broadway and Gowen interchanges and widened I-84 to three lanes in each direction between them.
The practical version: the drive at 8 a.m. will take longer than the numbers above, and ITD says part of the added time happens at the on-ramps before you reach I-84. Test the route at the time you would commute, in both directions, before you pick an area.
How to test the commute before you buy
If you're not sure which side of the valley fits, renting for a few months first lets you try the drive, which matters when you're moving from out of state. Before you buy, drive to the campus from two or three areas at your real commute time, on a weekday rather than a weekend, and in both directions.
