What's it like to live in downtown Boise?
You can walk to most of what you need. A few local favorites:
- The Idaho State Capitol: the only state capitol in the U.S. heated by geothermal water. Boise's city geothermal system also heats many downtown buildings.
- The Capital City Public Market: local farmers, food, and art on 8th Street every Saturday from April through December.
- The Basque Block on Grove Street, with the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, restaurants, and a market.
- Freak Alley Gallery, an alley of outdoor murals between 8th and 9th Streets.
- Julia Davis Park, which started with 43 acres given to the city in 1907. It's home to Zoo Boise, the Boise Art Museum, and the Idaho State Museum, with access to the Greenbelt.
- Treefort Music Fest, which fills downtown with shows every spring. The 2027 festival runs March 31 to April 4.
What should you check before buying in downtown Boise?
- HOA fees and what they cover: ask for the budget, the reserve study, and any planned special assessments.
- Parking: find out if a space is deeded, assigned, or extra.
- Rental rules: some condo buildings limit short-term or long-term rentals. Read the rules if you might rent the home out later.
- Noise: bars, events, and festivals are part of downtown life. Visit on a Friday night before you buy.
- Financing: some loan types need the condo building to be approved. I'll help you check early.
