Skiing Near Boise for Micron Movers from the West Coast

The short answer
Skiing near Boise is a 16-mile drive to Bogus Basin, a nonprofit mountain with about 200 acres of night skiing, so a few runs after work are realistic. What you give up is size and snow: Bogus Basin gets about 250 inches in an average year, while Palisades Tahoe reports 400 and Stevens Pass 460. My skiing guide has the full picture.

How does skiing near Boise compare with the West Coast?
If you're moving to Boise from California, Oregon, or Washington for Micron, the real question is whether skiing near Boise fits the way it did back home. The comparison comes down to three things: how far you drive, what a day on the mountain costs, and how much snow falls.
- Bogus Basin (Boise): 16 miles from town, up Bogus Basin Road
- Palisades Tahoe (San Francisco): 196 miles
- The Summit at Snoqualmie (Seattle): about an hour on Interstate 90
- Stevens Pass (Seattle): 78 miles, 2 to 2.5 hours
For anyone coming from the Bay Area, Boise puts the mountain a lot closer than home did. For the rest of the move, my Micron relocation guide covers neighborhoods, commute times, and the paperwork.
What is Bogus Basin like?
Bogus Basin has been open since 1942 and runs as a nonprofit. It sits 16 miles from town on Bogus Basin Road, which winds as it climbs, so check road conditions before you head up on a snowy day. The mountain has 2,600 acres of terrain, 10 lifts, 90 named runs, and 1,800 vertical feet.
About 200 acres are lit for night skiing, which is how a few runs after work fit into a weekday. Bogus Basin calls itself the largest nonprofit recreation area in the US. My skiing guide has the full breakdown of the mountain, the Nordic trails, and the summer season.
How much does skiing near Boise cost?
Because Bogus Basin is a nonprofit, ticket money goes back into the mountain. The resort's tickets page reports that more than $40 million has been reinvested since 2016, and during its 10-day sale from February 27 to March 8, 2026, adult season passes for 2026/27 ran from $99 to $599, with family passes from $299 to $1,589. Outside the sale, prices are higher: Bogus lists the True Bogus adult pass at $779.
Compare that with day tickets on the coast. Stevens Pass says buying online 7 days ahead saves up to 15% off its peak window price, and Palisades Tahoe prices one-day window tickets by date, charges the most at the window, and says buying online in advance saves up to 35%. The shift for a skier moving from the West Coast is that the local mountain is nonprofit and a season pass costs a few hundred dollars.
Does the snow hold up next to the coast?
The trade-off is snow. Bogus Basin gets about 250 inches in an average year, where Palisades Tahoe reports 400 inches and Stevens Pass reports 460 inches in an average year. So the closest mountain to Boise gets less snow than the coastal giants, and it has less vertical: 1,800 feet at Bogus Basin versus 2,850 at Palisades Tahoe.
For bigger snow and bigger terrain, Tamarack Resort is about 90 miles north, near Donnelly; Brundage Mountain is about 116 miles north, near McCall; and Sun Valley is about 2.5 hours from Boise via Interstate 84 and U.S. Highway 20, per Visit Sun Valley.
Where should skiers live in Boise?
If you plan to ski a lot, living close to Bogus Basin Road saves time on every trip. The North End sits at the bottom of the hill, and the Boise Foothills run up along the road. Steep driveways and hillside streets can be tough in snow, so ask how a home's driveway and street handle winter before you buy. Text me how often you ski and your budget, and I'll send you homes that make the drive easy.
